Record number of students and their parents and carers viewed one of Britain’s best school-based sixth forms on their annual Open Evening
The King Alfred School Academy was buzzing with enthusiasm and activity as huge numbers toured the school-base Sixth Form. Dozens of current students met up with prospective students, and were able to show off the departments, and to meet teachers and staff.
Incredibly due to the success popularity, in the last two years the numbers studying at the Sixth Form has grown by over 100%. Head of Sixth Form Jonathan Gaskell said: “It was wonderful to see so many students, their parents and carers at our Open Evening. Something really special is happening at our Sixth Form.”
There has been constant success from students over the last few years with a 100% pass rate, and with 80% going to Russell Group Universities. This year, three students are heading off to study at Cambridge and Oxford universities. Other students achieving places at Cardiff, St Andrews, Queen’s in Belfast, King's College in London, Durham, Sheffield, University College London, the London School of Economics, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Lancaster, Exeter, Bristol and Loughborough.
In the three years since becoming part of The Priory Learning Trust the school and Sixth Form have thrived, attracting students from Weston-super-Mare, Bridgwater and even internationally. Acting Principal Dan Milford said: “We have a very high achieving and caring Sixth Form and we are delighted to see so many students coming to visit.”
The Sixth Form has benefitted from significant investment since joining TPLT and the facilities for students are outstanding. Places are available for next year on a wide range of subjects.
