P.E. Curriculum Overview

Here at TKASA, sport is pivotal to the all-round development of our pupils. It provides engagement, responsibility, enjoyment, and a sense of pride in many achievements, regardless of scale or magnitude.

The curriculum has been designed to enable our students to take on a variety of concepts throughout the Key Stages. Students will develop intra and inter-personal skills, gain a better understanding of their body and minds as well as explore the world around them, through conceptual learning and engaging in physical activity.

Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 & 9) students will cover the concepts of Personal Development, Effective Teams, Resilience & Wellbeing throughout each year, interleaving the learning to encourage progression and broadening understanding. Activities that will be covered through the concepts will be broad and balanced, these include Hockey, Rugby, Football, Netball, Cricket , Badminton, Gymnastics, Dance, Athletics, Fitness and Volleyball. Participating in such a wide range of activities develops competence and confidence and enables our students to succeed.

Key Stage 4 (Years 10 & 11) students will focus on the concept of Healthy Participation, applying their knowledge from Key Stage 3 to be able to safely and effectively participate in a wide variety of activities, leading to informed lifestyle choices by the time they finish year 11. Students will be given more choice and variety in their programme at Key Stage 4, with the opportunity to still develop through Games, Health Related Fitness and Individual activities. By having these different opportunities each student is able to discover what they like to do and what their aptitudes are which enables them to make informed choices about lifelong physical activity.

Students are enriched through a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. The PE department provides after school opportunities to participate in clubs on a recreational basis. It also runs school teams in many major Games, Cross-country and Athletics and competes regularly in both the Sedgemoor and District leagues as well as the County cup competitions.
