Chefs of the future whipped up some amazing dishes in a competitive cookery competition at The King Alfred School Academy
Students battled it out in a cooking contest on Saturday, 30 November organised by the Rotary Club of Burnham-on-Sea.
Year 10 Katie Bartlett won first prize overall winner and will go on to represent Burnham-on-Sea in the next regional round of the national competition early in 2020.
The District Young Chef Competition gave the students just two hours to prepare a three-course healthy meal for two people costing less than £20, judged on the menus, costings and the health benefits.
Four students pitched head to head for 2 hours creating a healthy three course meal for two people.
The judges; Irena from Bakkavor, Highbridge and Diane from Abbeyfield House, Burnham-on-Sea were impressed and amazed with the high standard of culinary skills and awesome tastes from the contestants.
Irena even suggested that Korben should start thinking about a career with a leading manufacturer creating healthy desserts as she was so impressed with his healthy banoffee parfait he served.
One of the organisers Rachel Chainey said: “The student competitors from The King Alfred School remained calm and collected throughout and made incredible looking and tasting dishes.
Congratulations are due to all four for taking part and setting such a high standard. Sincere thanks also go to our local Burnham-on-Sea Rotary Club who sponsored and helped to facilitate the event.”
