Mathematics Curriculum Overview
The maths curriculum consists of 6 strands which run through Years 7 to 11. These strands are
Number
Algebra
Ratio, proportion and rates of change
Geometry and measures
Probability
Statistics
Our aim is that each learning cycle contains topics from a variety of strands and builds on prior knowledge. By doing this we consolidate previous work in order to improve long term recall of key information and processes.
We encourage confidence, enjoyment and challenge in all students irrespective of ability and prior attainment. A variety of lessons are used to motivate and engage all students.
In KS3 we use a mastery approach which is characterised by breaking down learning into small achievable steps in order to build a deeper understanding. In KS4 and 5 we continue to develop an understanding and confidence so that students can meet the mathematical problems they face in all aspects of their life with thoughtfulness and enthusiasm.
