Our vision:
The Geography department is a connected department which aims to inspire, engage and motivate students through connections:

·      To success through high attainment and aspiration
·      To contemporary issues shaping the world around us
·      To our local community
·      To the wider world
·      Through technology
·      Through partnerships and teacher development

Our aims:

  • KS3 - to provide students with a firm foundation of powerful geographical knowledge for their future lives through high quality geography teaching.  Our core textbook is ‘Progress in Geography’ by Hodder Education.

  • GCSE - to build upon the foundation of geographical knowledge developed through the KS3 curriculum to ensure success for all in the OCR Entry Level geography and/or AQA GCSE geography courses and their future lives.  Our core textbook is ‘GCSE Geography for AQA’ by OUP.

  • A level geography - to build upon the foundation of geographical knowledge developed through the KS3 and GCSE curricula to ensure success for all in AQA A level geography and their future lives.  We aim to make links between A level geography and the academic geography curriculum at Universities. Our core textbook is AQA A level Geography from Hodder Education.

  • A level sociology - to introduce students to a new and dynamic subject in which they will develop their understanding of socialisation, culture, identity, inequalities and global media/communication.  We focus on youth culture and subcultures and education for our optional topics. We aim to support our sociologists in achieving success in their course and their future lives. Our core textbooks are Sociology 1 and 2 for OCR A level Sociology from Hodder Education.

Focus on Excellence:

The department is a Geographical Association Centre of Excellence.  We have strong links with the local community, other geography departments across TPLT and Somerset and the Kasubi schools group in Uganda.  Mrs Owen is a Chartered Geographer and the author of several geography books.
